How to set Brave profile name and picture?
For a long time I've been using Chrome (earlier on I used Opera), mainly because of laziness (i.e. its fantastic synchronization feature, which as such may be enough to choose this browser). But recently I've stumbled upon an article featuring another web-browser. The article inspired Me to at least give it a try. What convinced Me, though, was not all the privacy approach involved (which may be considered the main advantage of this software) - but that it may load both websites and itself faster than Chrome. Earlier on I felt disheartened by Vivaldi: regardless of how amazing it is, on My old PC it works tangibly slow :( . So, once I've heard that there may be something new to be competitive in terms of speed - I still was willing to check it out.
The new candidate is called "Brave". Based on Chromium, it looks pretty similar to Chrome and, what is more important, You can use all the Chrome themes and extensions. At this point, thought, there are some settings which haven't been reflected within the browser yet. One such a thing is the ability to ascribe keyboard shortcuts to various extensions or their features (fortunately You can still set those: just past brave://extensions/shortcuts to the address bar and confirm). Another one is the ability to change Your user name and avatar picture. I've found the instruction for Mac computers, which helped Me to figure out how to accomplish this on Windows 7 which I use.
To change Your user name:
- Close Brave browser, ensure that You've also closed its tray icon (somewhere next to the date & time usually in the bottom right corner of the screen).
- Open the following files with the help of a Notepad or other text editor:
C:\Users\ Your Windows Username \AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\ Preferences
and
C:\Users\ Your Windows Username \AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\ Local State - Find the current name (probably "Person 1") and change it into Your Own. Save changes.
- Run the browser - Your user name should be changed.
To change Your avatar picture:
- Close Brave browser, ensure that You've also closed its tray icon (somewhere next to the date & time usually in the bottom right corner of the screen).
- Open the following file with the help of a Notepad or other text editor:
C:\Users\ Your Windows Username \AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\ Local State - Look for something like this:
"avatar_icon":"chrome://theme/IDR_PROFILE_AVATAR_**
. Change"**"
into a number from this avatar pictures list. Save changes. - Run the browser - Your avatar pic should be changed.
